DEWEY

Dwayne, who goes by Dewey, is a happy child who is a joy to be around. His bright smile lights up the room. He likes to giggle and loves receiving attention. Most of his communication is nonverbal. He communicates with yes or no head movements to answer questions and can imitate a few words. He has a fun sense of humor and at times he will answer opposite to be funny and laugh.
Dewey loves to spend time in the water, with assistance. Dewey uses a wheelchair and gait trainer for mobility and activities.  He can scoot around on his back in the floor to get where he wants go. He has learned that he can roll from his belly to his back and back to his belly. He likes being an independent as possible.  He enjoys going on family outings to sporting events and community functions. He is happy when meeting new people and seeing friends. Dewey also likes to be held and enjoys when you assist him in standing. He likes to watch cartoons and enjoys being read to as well. He likes to play and watch light up toys that move around. 
Dewey will fit best in a family who has a lot of affection to give and takes time to teach him daily life skills. He needs an active and peaceful home. His family will need to be helpful, able to meet all his medical needs, and ensure he makes it to all necessary appointments. His forever parents will work with Dewey on building his communication and mobility skills. Dewey’s ideal family will advocate and ensure all required treatment for Dewey’s medical needs is received. His family will appreciate his humor, show him affection, and snuggle with him.
